When is the best time to visit Ha Giang?
Ha Giang is beautiful year-round, but two windows stand out for riding: September–November and March–May. Here’s what each season looks like.
September–November: golden rice & clear skies
The most popular season. In late September–October the terraced rice turns gold; November brings pink buckwheat flowers and crisp, clear passes. Book ahead — it’s busy.
March–May: green and warm
Warm, green and lively with local festivals. Occasional afternoon showers, but generally excellent riding and fewer crowds than autumn.
June–August: lush but wet
Dramatic green landscapes and waterfalls at their fullest, but this is the rainy season — expect downpours and the occasional landslide. Ride with care and flexibility.
December–February: quiet and cold
Fewer travelers and moody, misty scenery. It gets cold at altitude, sometimes with heavy fog on the passes. Pack warm layers.
